Argh, Mateys! It's a Pirate party!

Kemper bounced around MANY different theme ideas for his birthday this year...ninjas, Cars, Batman and pirates were the front runners.  He finally settled (with a little begging and prodding from Mom) on a pirate party!

I hit the jackpot at Oriental Trading while preparing for this party!  This foam board pirate ship cupcake stand was $4!  I already had the burlap table runners and added a few of Kemper's Jake & the Neverland Pirate characters around the ship.  I cut triangles out of scrapbook paper and strung them onto jute to make the banners.  After going all out for his superhero party last year and just finishing Hudson's 1st birthday a couple weeks earlier, my goal was to go simple for this party.  The banners took, by far, the longest to complete but even that was only about 20 minutes.

Another Oriental Trading score - pirate swords, eye patches and bandannas for all of the party guests.

Another burlap table runner along with black plates and pirate napkins from Hobby Lobby and I called the dining room done.  We ordered party platters from Subway because Kemper LOVES sandwiches and Subway is his favorite.  He was thrilled!  To finish off the food we added chips and some fresh fruit.

Much to Amber's dismay, James picked up some red and white balloons to add to the banners.

Pirate Kemper ready for his guests to arrive!!!

Hudson was in a considerably better mood for Kemper's party than he was for his own.

Captain Cooper was ready to party, too!

We were shocked that he kept his bandanna on!

Then he goes and leaves the eye patch on, too!

Cooper, Harper and Hudson.  It was so fun to see these sweet babies together!  Casey, Jenny and I were all pregnant at the same time.  Hudson is the oldest (13 months) then Cooper (9 months) who is only a few days older than Harper.

We played pin the treasure on the map.

Then it was time to walk the plank!!

Gavin and Kemper share a birthday.  So hard to believe these guys are 5 years old!  I'm so thankful that the Gavin and his family are stationed at Campbell with us.  It was fun to see these kiddos as babies together in Germany and now we get to see them grow and start school together!

Lynse and Pirate Puppy as Trenton requested we call him that day.

At Kemper's 2nd birthday party, I asked all of the kids to sit on the couch so I could get a group picture...that tradition has continued over the years and I really love having the group pictures - it's fun to see how much they've grown and changed!  At Kemper's 4th birthday, Miss Haley was the baby of the bunch but this year, she was right in the mix with the big kids and there were 3 new babies!  (Addi was at the party too but wasn't feeling the group picture.)

Cupcake time!

Hudson really enjoyed his cupcake...this was a redo for him since he didn't touch his cake at his party.

Next, it was time for the treasure hunt.  James came up with clues and hid them around the yard.  Each clue would lead them to another flag with the next clue until they found the treasure chest!

Gavin spotted the treasure!!

I took a styrofoam cooler and hot glued brown craft paper to it to make the treasure chest.  The treasure was a party favor bag for each guest.  There were bubbles, pirate rubber duckies, pirate finger puppets, pirate stickers and a bag of gold-de-bloons for each kid.

Pirate Kemper seemed pretty happy with his loot!

I love that it was been nice enough weather for the kids to play outside at their birthday parties.  Hudson's will probably be hit or miss each year but I think we'll probably be able to have quite a few of Kemper's parties outside.

Argh!

Present time - he was so excited to get The Lion King 1 1/2!

Thanking Mrs. Jenny and Harper for his gift card!

Kemper was blessed to make such a wonderful friend when we first moved to Tennessee.  Joey has been at Kemper's 2nd, 3rd, 4th and now 5th birthday parties which is basically unheard of when it comes to a military child!  We were so excited that Casey, Joey and Cooper were able to come visit and even more excited that it coincided with his birthday party!

I am afraid that next year it may be a hard sell to convince Kemper to have a party at home.  This year he was pretty set on a Chuck E Cheese party but I was able to convince him that we could have a really cool party at home but I feel those days are numbered.  I really enjoy planning the kids birthday parties and having our friends celebrate with us at home but when it comes down to it, as long as the birthday boy has a good time, I guess that's all that matters!
