Waiting for the park to officially open for the morning.
Day 3 was our first day visiting the Magic Kingdom!! The only thing Kemper really knew about the Magic Kingdom was that this was where the castle was. He had told me before we left for Florida that the castle was where they kept all of the movies. We're guessing that because every time he watches a Disney movie they show the castle. Either way, he was so excited to see the movie castle!
MeMe and Kemper
We made it in time to see the official park opening show (I think they call it the Good Morning show?? Maybe? I don't remember) which Kemper enjoyed even though we weren't in the best viewing spot. Many of the characters ride the train into the Main Street Train Station to officially open the park with the family of the day. Kemper got a big kick out of seeing Mickey, Minnie and a bunch of other characters on the train. Once they officially opened the park, it was complete madness as people rushed to get passed the gates.
I LOVE this picture - he was so excited!
I knew, from my research, that people were going to be making a mad dash for the new Fantasyland. I also knew that Kemper didn't know the difference and probably cared less about Enchanted Tales with Belle and more about Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin! Hudson had fallen asleep while we waited for the park to open so he and I sat out while MeMe, Pops and Kemper basically walked right onto the ride. Kemper loved it! When they came out, the wait was still only 5 minutes so he and I went back and rode it again. Then we decided to walk toward Fantasyland because that was where quite a few of the rides I knew he would enjoy are located.
The forecast for this day was looking like it was going to be pretty nasty - rain and even tornado warnings! We had our ponchos packed and a rain cover for the stroller in hopes that we could ride it out if it was just a shower here and there. It had drizzled on us a bit but we kept going. Kemper wanted to ride Peter Pan but the line was kind of long so we got a Fast Pass and kept walking. We ended up riding The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh while Hudson took a little nap. The queue for this ride is one of their new "interactive queues" and is really neat. There are activities and things for the kids to play with while you wait. After Pooh, we headed over to Dumbo to give that a spin. ;) There was no wait for Dumbo so Kemper didn't get to play in the big circus tent waiting area and was pretty bummed but he enjoyed the ride. I think he and MeMe rode as high as Dumbo would fly the entire ride. Hudson and I had a lame Dumbo and couldn't go up and down but he seemed to enjoy the ride. Next, we headed over to Goofy's Barnstormer. This was going to be Kemper's first rollercoaster and I wanted him to love it so badly! It started to sprinkle but we went ahead and got in line while MeMe and Pops hung out with Hudson. We ended up in the very front and I talked it up as much as I could to Kemper. He ended up LOVING it! Finally, it was time for Peter Pan's flight. I can't remember why but Hudson sat this one out with MeMe while Pops, Kemper and I rode. We switched out after so MeMe could go with Kemper.
After Peter Pan's Flight we decided it was time for lunch. It was around 10:45 but since we wanted to try Be Our Guest we figured it would be best to head over early. A long line greeted us as well as a light rain. Hudson was being a total bear but I managed to calm him with some goldfish. We had been in line for about 10 minutes when a gentleman asked if we were a party of 5. When we replied yes, he said "Well this is your lucky day!" and handed us fast passes for Be Our Guest! He had been given them as part of a promotion but they decided to eat somewhere else. We walked straight to the head of the line and were ordering within 5 minutes! So very nice of him and we were so appreciative!
We found a table next to the big wall of windows so we could watch it snow while we ate. Hudson DEVOURED the kids pasta meal and Kemper enjoyed his turkey sandwich. Kemper was completely enthralled by the rose that they give you when you order that allows your food to find you. He thought it was incredibly cool!
By far, his favorite part was dessert. He enjoyed it so much that he took a knife and scraped every last crumb out of the wrapper.
Hudson also enjoyed the dessert tastes he got.
When we left Be Our Guest (which was DELICIOUS and beautifully decorated) it was raining. We threw on the ponchos and found some cover to decide what we would do next. The rain was pretty steady and wasn't letting up. Hudson HATED the rain cover on the stroller and Kemper was kind of being a pain in the rear. We decided that since the boys had done well with napping the day before that we would head towards the exit and head back for naps after a little pit stop.
The before mullet
Hudson's first haircut at the Harmony Barber Shop on Main Street USA!! I had read about their special first haircut package and thought it would be a neat thing to do with Hudson. For $18, you get a haircut, certificate and Mickey ears that say "My First Haircut". Everything I had read included rave reviews for all of the people who worked there and said how great they were with kids. I was a bit skeptical but the mullet had to go and I figured it would be over in a few minutes anyhow.
I hadn't made an appointment so our plan was to see how long the wait was and decide whether or not to wait. Somehow, there was no wait!
It was immediately obvious that they were GOOD at their jobs and knew how to distract little ones. Ms. Penny covered Hudson's legs with Mickey stickers and gave him one to play with. Then she started cutting. He was completely oblivious and loved playing with the stickers.
She was basically done by the time he realized something was going on around his head. When he started to get antsy, she pulled the stickers off and gave MeMe a spinning, light up Minnie toy to spin for him. She went back to work and, yet again, he was oblivious.
When she brought out the clippers, he was getting a bit cranky but she was fast and it was over in no time! She wrapped up some of his mullet in a tissue for me and secured it with a Mickey sticker so I could keep it for his baby book if I wanted.
I figured he would rip his ears off as soon as she put them on but he just grinned and looked so proud! He's getting to be such a big boy!!
Happy boy with Ms. Penny!!
When we walked out of the barber shop, it was pouring so we headed for the buses so we could get naps. Apparently I was walking too fast with the stroller because MeMe said at one point Kemper told her to get out her phone and call me to let me know I needed to slow down and wait for them. Ha!
The night, we had dinner reservations at the 50's Prime Time Cafe at Hollywood Studios. Our plan was to eat and then catch Fantasmic before heading in for the night. On our way into Hollywood Studios, we stopped to pick up some Buzz Lightyear ears for Kemper. He basically kept them on the rest of the trip. He always remembered to grab them on the way out of the room in the morning.

50's Prime Time Cafe was a neat dinner experience. It's decorated like a house from the 50s with different rooms and all of the servers are in character. Our server was Uncle somebody (I can't remember his name). He took our orders and told us to be sure to set the table. Kemper enjoyed helping to set the table. The food was delicious - down home cooking. Meatloaf, fried chicken, chicken pot pies. Yum! The desserts were even better! MeMe and Pops got HUGE strawberry sundaes and Kemper got his own little sundae with various toppings. I ordered the S'mores and it was delicious! One of their "signature" items is a Peanut Butter and Jelly milkshake. None of us tried this because it just doesn't sound good but every online review I've read said it's delicious.
We managed to make it to Fantasmic with about 30 seconds to spare. There were a few moments that were a bit scary for Kemper and Hudson was totally enthralled with all of the lights/water/characters. In the end, Mickey of course wins and Kemper kept saying "I KNEW he was going to beat the bad guys!".
Overall, day 3 was a good day. I wished we had seen more of Magic Kingdom because I knew there was A LOT we had missed but I knew that we would get a second chance and knew that we had made a good decision to head back instead of trying to push through in the rain.
Up next, Animal Kingdom!
