Yes Hudson, that's how I feel about you being 6 months old, too!!!
Where in the world has time gone?! At 6 months old you are 19lbs (not sure on length, we had to go to the doc for a viral rash and got your weight but will find out the rest next week). You are a total chunk and are getting too heavy for your infant carseat. We've ordered your big boy carseat and can't wait for it to get here. I think you'll be much happier with a little more space to spread out. I'm hoping you love it so that the 10.5 hour drive to the beach isn't torture to my ears.
You are a sweet baby and have a great personality! You will smile for just about anyone but you really light up for your Daddy. When he walks in the room after getting home from work, you just smile all over yourself with excitement! Your brother is another one who consistently gets smiles around this house. Daddy and Kemper are the fun ones...Mommy makes you take baths (which you love), change your diaper (you can't stand to be still long enough for this task), makes you nap (how dare I?!), and makes you ride in the car twice a day to take Kemper to school/pick him up (your pretty excited when you see him at school even if you do get mad that I make you ride in the car).
You LOVE your big brother and I think he's pretty fond of you, too. :) If he's in the room, you're typically entertained by just watching him. If he pays attention to you, well, your mind is just blown with excitement! He is the one who can get belly laughs out of you. Mommy has tried to mimic his normal tricks but you just give me a look and look away to find the REAL funnyman!
Kemper started back to Pre-K on Tuesday and will be in school Monday-Friday. We got home from dropping him off and every time we walked into a different room of the house, you would just about break your neck looking for him. I know he's fun and entertaining but Mommy is pretty excited about getting some one-on-one time with you since I had quite a bit of that with Kemper when he was your age. I should probably get used to taking the back seat to big brother.
I had to enlist Kemper to help me take your monthly pictures. It was my only hope for a smile. When I put the camera to my face, you lock those smiles away. I was able to get a few but you really just wanted to study what he was doing. He thinks your pretty cool now but once you start moving and messing with his things, Kemper's world is going to be rocked.
At 6 months, you're wearing mostly 9 month clothes with a few 12 month outfits starting to make their way in. You're still nursing every 2 hours with the occasional 3 hour stretch if you happen to sleep through the 2 hour mark (but let's be honest - that RARELY happens). You expect to eat solids when we sit down to eat lunch and dinner. You really aren't interested in breakfast at this point. So far you've tried: apples, bananas, avocado, pears, green beans, peas, butternut squash and sweet potatoes. I've got the next batch of food to make and we're going to add peaches, carrots and parsnips to the rotation. You do NOT like runny food. You also do NOT like green beans. Apples don't appear to be your favorite but you will eat them.
We had to make a trip to the doctor this week because you broke out in a horrible rash that I thought was eczema. None of my tricks from Kemper were working, in fact, it was getting worse so I took you in to see Ms. Lissa. She checked you out and said it was a viral rash and that coupled with your red, irritated throat, she suspected you had an upper respiratory infection and reacted with a viral rash. I had never seen one of those (Kemper never had one that I can remember although he did have his fair share of upper respiratory infections that landed us in German ERs a few times) but she assured me that by the time the rash appears, you're pretty well over whatever it was that caused the rash. Aside from a fever you had one night, we didn't really notice you weren't feeling well. I hope that's a sign that future illnesses will treat us as kindly!
You are sitting up on your own really well! If I stand you up, you will/can hold yourself up to the music table for a few minutes at a time. I think you could do it longer but you get distracted by Kemper and lose your balance. Your favorite way to play is for me to sit in front of you and play with your toys for you. It's barrels of fun, I wish you'd give it a try!
So far, still no teeth. You keep your hands shoved in your mouth as far as you can get them (and prefer for my hand to be in there too if I let you) and are a drool factory but I see no signs of teeth. Kemper was an easy teether (Thank you God) so maybe you will be, too!
Sleep....ah, sleep. Well, you're not awful, but you could be better. At 6 months, you go to bed around 7 (sometimes as early as 6:30) and will sleep soundly until midnight. Most nights you wake up then and cry for your pacifier. You're still swaddled (oh boy, we've tried to break this a few times but you just don't know what to do with your hands - you immediately pull your paci out, use your lovey as a lasso, wipe your eyes, fight it with all you've got in you) and can usually break out of your swaddle so we go in to reswaddle and give you a pacifier. Then you wake around 3:30 to eat (you're a fast eater, thank goodness) and then again around 5:45 to eat again. Usually you will go back to sleep until around 7. So, not awful, but I could really stand to cut one of those feedings out. I'm pretty sure you don't need it but since Daddy doesn't flinch when you wake up, it's just quicker for me to feed you because I can get back to sleep faster that way!
We love you sweet boy! You've been such a blessing in our lives and we can't wait to see what the next 6 months have in store!
