Happy 4th of July!!!!
We had a wonderful 4th of July - pretty low key but spent with some of our best Army friends! We had some friends over for a little cookout (well, cook-in due to the grill ban and heat!) and then headed on post for their annual fireworks show. Kemper LOVED the fireworks and Hudson even made it through them awake. He was mesmerized by the colors but didn't appear to be phased by the sounds. We were pretty far away from where they were shooting them off so aside from a few loud ones in the finale, nobody was holding their ears or screaming that it was too loud.
Hudson turned 4-months old on the 6th! I love seeing these pictures side-by-side. It's really amazing to see the changes! At his doctors appointment, he weighed in at 17lbs 4oz and was 26in long. When Kemper was 4-months, he weighed 15lbs 14oz and was 26in long. He did great with his shots - only 2 this time! When the nurse gave him the first one, he just looked at her with a "is that all you've got" look....then she gave him the second one and he lost it. Luckily Kemper was there to tell him it would be ok (said as he continued to play his game on the iPad without looking up) and he calmed down pretty fast. Thankfully, he didn't spike a high fever with this set like he did at 2-months.
Tummy time is getting to be a bit more pleasant and he has rolled from back to belly. He didn't like the outcome so after doing that a few times and not being able to get back to his back, he hasn't done it again. He enjoys playing in his exersaucer (thanks Richters!) and is starting to get the hang of the doorway jumper. I think once he figures that out, he'll have a blast bouncing around!
I love this side-by-side comparison of Kemper and Hudson. There are times when I think that they look so much alike and then other times I don't think they look alike at all. There is about a month age difference in these pictures (Kemper was 5m, Hudson is 4m).
At 4-months, Hudson is still eating every 2 hours throughout the day and recently decided that he needed to eat every 2 hours at night, too. This makes for one tired mom. We're slowly working on the sleep issue. His daytime naps are starting to get better and I'm starting to notice a nice schedule emerge. Hopefully in the next few weeks we'll be able to get a good routine going - I think everyone will do better once we've got that established.
Because of his great weight gain and his want/need to eat every 2 hours round the clock, his doctor wanted us to give rice/oatmeal cereal a try to see if it would help. He had begun to get quite upset at dinner when we would sit him in his highchair with a toy so we took that as a sign that he may be ready. I had intended to wait until 6-months to introduce any solids but the possibility of better sleep won out. Kemper started solids at 4 months and did really well with them. They didn't help him sleep better either, if I remember correctly.
Hudson LOVED oatmeal. He does really well with the little bit we've been giving him and I think he would eat more if we would let him. It didn't help his sleep at all but we're only a few days in so we'll see how it goes.
The boys also had their first experience bathing together this past weekend. Kemper was pretty excited to take a bubble bath with Hudson. He thought the bubble mohawks were hilarious. Hudson just gave me his unimpressed look and went back to watching Kemper's every move. Kemper got a bit adventurous and poured a cup of water over Hudson's head when I picked the camera up. Hudson didn't get upset at all but we had a nice talk - "do unto others". Kemper hates water on his face so I asked him if he would like it if Hudson was older and did that to him. I don't know that we'll have that problem anytime soon....SOMEDAY I'm sure it'll happen again but for now, I don't think Kemper will go rogue with the cup. :)
